Which Morocco Desert Tour Is Right for You?

Morocco has two main dune seas. Erg Chebbi, near Merzouga, has the tallest dunes and is reached by paved road, so it suits most travelers, including families. Erg Chegaga, beyond M'hamid, is wider and much quieter, but the last stretch is off-road by 4x4.

From Marrakech, plan at least three days for Merzouga, since it is about 560 km each way. From Fes, you can cross the desert and finish in Marrakech in three days. If your time is short, flying into Errachidia puts you on the dunes about two hours after landing.

How many days do I need for a Morocco desert tour?

Three days is the practical minimum from Marrakech or Fes, with one night in the desert. Four or five days allows shorter driving days and extra time in the valleys along the way.

What is the best time for a Sahara tour?

March to May and late September to November have the most comfortable temperatures. Summer days often pass 40°C, and winter nights can drop close to freezing, although camps provide extra blankets.
