Planning an Imperial Cities Tour

Each of the four imperial cities served as Morocco's capital at some point, and each has a different character. Fes has the world's largest car-free medina, Meknes has its monumental gates, Rabat is the modern capital and Marrakech has the most famous square in North Africa.

Most imperial cities tours start in Casablanca and finish in Marrakech. A week covers the essentials, but we recommend eight to ten days so you can add Chefchaouen, the Roman ruins of Volubilis and a night in the Sahara on the way south.
